FAQ

This is a growing document of questions we are asked a lot.

  • What is the cost?
Our base rate for a Murder Mystery is $800 within 25 miles of Brattleboro, specifically the parking lot at the high school. It's an additional $2/mile beyond 25. If there will be more than 3 hours of driving one way, overnight accommodations are expected.
  • What's included?
We provide 6 actors, 1 detective, our costumes and props.
  • What does the host provide?
You are responsible for the space, food, drink, decor, etc for your guests. We need, from you, a space to change and leave our belongings. There should be a meal for 6 actors and the detective at the same time as the guests. The actors can either be seat amongst the guests or at their own table.
  • How does the evening usually work?
Guests arrive and enjoy a drink. The detective distributes secret clues which will be opened throughout the performance. The actors mingle among guests for a few moments before the detective calls everyone to attention and announces the murder. The suspects are introduced and a few clues are revealed. A salad or appetizer is served. Guests talk amongst themselves or with the suspects. There is a round of clues. The suspects make accusations against each other. Dinner is served. Guests talk amongst themselves or with the suspects. There is a round of clues. The suspects make accusations against each other. Dessert is served. Guests talk amongst themselves or with the suspects. Guests question the suspects, asking for additional information or clearing up confusions. Each table of guests makes a guess about who they believe the murderer is. The suspects give final confessions and the murder is solved. We've been in situations where the first course was on the table when the guests arrived and the dinner was served as the actors were entering the room. This does not work.
  • How many guests? What size space works best?
We've performed for 20-200 in small dining rooms, large open grange spaces, and huge hotel ballrooms. Less than 20 isn't as much fun, but is doable. Groups over 150 can be too big and spread out and not interested. The room needs to be large enough to allow the actors to wander around the room, but not so big they have to shout to be heard. Everybody should all be in one room.
  • Can anyone audition?
Anyone is welcome to audition for any of our productions.
  • What can I expect from auditions?
Every director runs auditions differently. Some will ask you to come with a monologue and just have you perform it. Some will run a workshop style audition while using your prepared piece. Sometimes you will be asked to cold read a scene with other auditioners.
